ALRO announces CEO leadership transition: Marin Cilianu to succeed Gheorghe Dobra, who will continue on Board of Directors

Slatina, 26 September 2024– ALRO S.A. (BVB: ALR, “the Company” or “ALRO”), one of the largest vertically integrated aluminium producers in Europe, measured by production capacity, announces a leadership transition as Marin CILIANU has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer, in the Board of Directors meeting held today, 26 September 2024, for a mandate until 31st July 2027, succeeding Gheorghe DOBRA, who has decided to step down after over three decades of exemplary service. While Gheorghe DOBRA will be stepping away from the role of CEO, he will continue to contribute to ALRO's strategic direction as a member of the Board of Directors.

A Legacy of Excellence: Gheorghe Dobra
Since joining ALRO in 1984, Gheorghe DOBRA has navigated the company through an era of profound transformation and growth. Appointed CEO in 1993, he was pivotal in securing the company's successful development, while elevating ALRO’s economic and financial performance. Under his leadership, the company achieved numerous technical and technological upgrades, positioning it at the forefront of the aluminum industry globally. His tenure is marked by several milestones, in the USD 900 million investments rolled over the past 20 years, from upgrading the production of high and very high added-value aluminum products, to significantly increasing the energy efficiency and reducing the environmental footprint. He played an instrumental role in securing the accreditation as a supplier to the aerospace and automotive sectors and consolidating ALRO’s place in the international aluminium market.
Introducing Marin CILIANU
Marin CILIANU, a pillar for ALRO’s future, currently holds the position of Director of Operations – Primary Aluminium. With a career at ALRO starting in 1994, Marin CILIANU is well-prepared to assume the role of CEO. Throughout his tenure, he has held key positions, contributing significantly to the company’s development by modernizing production processes, coordinating projects for ALRO to become a supplier to the aerospace industry, managing investment activities, and organizing operations for the company’s subsidiaries in Romania and abroad.
Marin CILIANU graduated from the Faculty of Materials Science at the Politehnica University of Bucharest and holds a PhD obtained in 2004 with the thesis “Magnetohydrodynamic Phenomena in Industrial Molten Electrolytes”. He also earned an Executive MBA from ASSEBUS & Washington University. Marin CILIANU is a co-author of several patents and has presented papers at both national and international conferences. Additionally, he is a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of Alum Tulcea.

Since 2020, ALRO and Vimetco Extrusion have been members of ASI (Aluminium Stewardship Initiative), an international association that contributes to enhancing sustainability in the global aluminium sector. In 2023, ALRO and Vimetco Extrusion achieved the first certification in Europe under ASI’s Third version of Performance Standards.
