  • ALRO, a constant oxygen consumer within its technological processes for obtaining recycled aluminium, has decided to redirect starting the end of October 2021 its monthly quota of oxygen to the Intensive Care Units, severely affected by the actual COVID-19 context;
  • ALRO donated during the past two months an additional RON 1.3 million to support the health system fighting the actual fourth COVID-19 wave;
  • ALUM, ALRO’s upstream subsidiary, also donated another RON 200,000 to Tulcea County Emergency Hospital to improve the quality of medical services in times of COVID-19 pandemic;
  • The Group set up its vaccination centres in Slatina and Tulcea, implemented comprehensive and efficient safety measures, and operates at normal parameters during these challenging times;

Slatina, 8 November 2021– ALRO S.A. (BVB: ALR, “the Company” or “ALRO”), one of the largest vertically integrated aluminium producers in Europe, measured by production capacity, supports the efforts of the Romanian health system by also providing oxygen to ICUs. Thus, ALRO will redirect, starting the end of October, its privately contracted oxygen quota towards the medical system, severely affected by the fourth COVID wave. ALRO uses about 240,000 cubic meters of technical oxygen per month within its technological processes, respectively, to operate the burners of the furnaces used for recycled aluminium smelting.

“These difficult times have confirmed to us that we need to stay together and support each other both in business activities and inside the local communities. Thus, given the oxygen crisis in the Romanian health system generated by the fourth COVID-19 wave, we decided to redirect our monthly oxygen quota contracted from our supplier to the benefit of the community”, saidGheorghe DOBRA, Chief Executive Officer, ALRO Slatina. “We have found alternative solutions to smelt the recycled aluminium so that about 500,000 cubic meters of oxygen can be made available to the health system for ICUs. We are confident that by helping the medical staff in its efforts to overcome these unprecedented times, we support the steady and, hopefully, faster return to normality of our community”,added Gheorghe DOBRA.

ALRO also helps the medical staff fight against the actual COVID-19 wave by donating RON 400,000 to Prof. Dr. Matei Balș Foundation, RON 300,000 for Slatina County Emergency Hospital, RON 200,000 for Municipal Hospital Caracal, and RON 200,000 to Bucharest Emergency Hospital Foundation. Furthermore, ALUM, ALRO’s upstream subsidiary, also donated another RON 200,000 to Tulcea County Emergency Hospital to improve the quality of medical services in times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The hospitals in Slatina and Caracal will use the funds to ensure the medical supplies, the safety and security of the medical acts, and the fire prevention conditions, properly equipping the hospital for emergencies. Prof. Dr. Matei Balș Foundation will use the donation to complete the modernization works of Unit no.10 for children “Prof. Dr. Monica Luminos” from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases "Prof. Dr. Matei Balș”.

ALRO Group has supported the efforts of communities to prevent the effects of the pandemic and ensure the proper environment to perform the medical acts through donations of almost RON 2.6 million, including the current contributions, consisting of money, medical and protective equipment. In its turn, the Group has set up vaccination centres at its locations in Slatina and Tulcea. It has also implemented complex protocols and procedures to maintain business continuity and to operate in safe conditions, at normal parameters, with a fully functional distribution chain.
